SOUTHERN REP

TERRY LONG

Terry Long is a new TMSA member, representing the southern region. He is a member of the Channel Men’s Shed and at one stage was vice-president. He joined the shed around seven years ago to see if he could enhance his rudimentary woodworking skills and enjoy some fellowship. His woodworking has improved but can still be haphazard. He now enjoys the company of colleagues.

Terry’s working life encompassed mostly media and corporate areas. He was a journalist for some twenty years, working mainly at the ABC. He worked mainly in Hobart, bit with stints in Melbourne and Sydney. His last position at the ABC was as presenter of the morning program of politics and social issues on 7ZR, although the program was often networked state-wide.

He then had a corporate sea change and became Chief Executive of the
Tasmanian Minerals and Energy Council, where he worked for twenty years
before retirement. That involved representing the mineral exploration, mining and metals sector to government and the public.

He is a sailor, having sailed to Cape York and back with his wife Gillian in 2020 on a year’s cruise. Their yacht Maristo is kept at Kettering.
